Frank Papperitz

Frank Papperitz (Germany) was born in 1969 in Saxony / GDR, where he still lives. He is married and has 2 adult children. Frank has been fascinated by old bicycles since he was a child. His passion began with collecting steering head plates, but at the age of 13, he rescued his frst historic bicycle from a rubbish pit and made it ready to ride again. Tis was a bicycle from around 1898, as he only learned much later. Shortly afer the peaceful revolution in the GDR, Frank and some other young people came together in Dresden in 1990 to found an association of bicycle collectors. Te club “Fahrrad-Veteranen-Freunde-Dresden” still exists and has about 35 members. In 2003, the head plate collection led to an encyclopaedia of historical German bicycle brands, titled Markenware Fahrrad, which is now in its 3rd edition. Data collection is being continued for markenwarefahrrad.de, an online database that is the most comprehensive work on this subject in the German-speaking world. Email: [email protected]
